The next feature we’ll discuss is putter length. This is important because the length of putter you use will determine your eye position at address. A general rule of thumb is that the proper position of the eyes at address is directly over the ball or slightly inside the target line.
For a right-handed golfer, if the eyes get too far over the ball, the natural tendency is to shift your aim left and pull the ball. If the eyes are too far inside the line, it’s natural to look right and push the ball. So, imagine yourself standing over a putt. Holding a putter that’s too short will force you to bend over more to reach the ball. This forces the eyes too far forward. And a putter that’s too long forces you to stand up straighter moving the eyes to far inside. Generally, a players height is an easy way to estimate proper putter length. See the table to the right.
